Admissions

Admissions Arrangements for Bobby Moore Academy

The Bobby Moore Academy is a government approved Free School located in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We are proud to serve the Olympic boroughs (Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest) which surround the park, and any other applicant who choose to select Bobby Moore Academy from further afield.

We are an all-through school with two forms of entry in the primary phase and six forms of entry in the secondary phase. All scholars, regardless of their background and abilities, are welcome at Bobby Moore Academy, as we firmly believe that every scholar has the right to a world class education.

We are an academy, which means we are our own admission authority but have adopted the London Borough of Newham’s admission arrangements and processes to ensure continuity across the borough.

Bobby Moore Academy was formed in 2017 and has grown in size each year meaning we now have students in Reception up to Year 13.

At full capacity our PAN is 1560 as indicated below:

In Year Admissions

Applications made outside the normal admissions round (in-year admissions) should be made directly to Bobby Moore Academy via the application form found here: click here to open document

Completed application forms should be sent to: admissions@bobbymooreacademy.co.uk

Parents/carers are entitled to apply for a place for their child at any time and to any academy. If more applications are received than there are places available, the oversubscription criteria shall apply. Details of the oversubscription criteria can be found below.

School places are usually offered within 10 days where places are available and scholars will be added to the waitlist where spaces are not available.

Waiting Lists

Waiting lists do not work on a first come, first served basis. By law they are organised in line with school's admissions arrangements which includes their oversubscription criteria.

This means a child will not automatically be added to the bottom of the waiting list and they can move up and down the list on a daily basis as other children join and leave the list.

When a school has an available place, it will be automatically offered to the child who is at the number one position on the day it becomes available.

A child will stay on a school waiting list for one term at a time until:

  • They are offered a place elsewhere and choose to accept it; or
  • They are offered a place at Bobby Moore Academy and their parents/carers refuse it, or
  • Their parents/carers request in writing that they are removed from the list, or
  • The application is found to be fraudulent or completed to deliberately mislead.

The waiting list will be refreshed every term, but parents do not need to reapply every term, they simply need to inform the academy by email to admissions, that they wish for their child to remain on the waiting list.

 Oversubscription Criteria

For all state funded schools, the law requires that where applications exceed the Published Admission Number (PAN), their admission authority must strictly apply their published arrangements and oversubscription criteria to determine which children are offered the places available.

Our oversubscription criteria can be seen as published below and determines a scholar's priority on the wait list for admission to the academy:

Priority 1

Looked after child and any child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangements, or special guardianship order including those who appear to the London Borough of Newham to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.

And then, if places are still remaining; Priority 2

Children who have been assessed by Newham Council’s Special Educational Needs Service as requiring a particular named school to meet their special educational needs and/or physical access. In addition, the child must be on the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice and be in receipt of ‘high needs funding’ and/ or have physical access difficulties.

And then, if places are still remaining; Priority 3

Children who have a sibling on roll and they are reasonably expected to still be on roll at the time of admission in the school.

And then, if places are still remaining; Priority 4

Children whose parent/carer (person with parental responsibility) are directly employed by the school.

And then, if places are still remaining; Priority 5

Service children

And then, if places are still remaining; Priority 6

All other children, whether or not they live in Newham including children from outside of England who have a right to education in England. If we have to decide between applicants in any of the above admissions criterion, the tiebreak will be, home to school shortest walking distance, starting with the nearest

Fair Access Protocol (FAP)

The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP) to ensure that for In-Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible.  In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school - including those with available places - is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour.  Bobby Moore Academy has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol.

Further details on the Fair Access Protocol is available at https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/fair-access-protocol-secondary-schools-newham

Appeals

All Admissions appeals are handled by Newham pupil services. Further details on the appeals process are available using the following link:

https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/admissions-appeals-1/1

Waiting List

All schools in Newham hold waiting lists if they have more applications than places available.

Children are automatically added to the waiting list when their parents/carers have a current live school application for the school and that school is listed as a higher preference than a school they have been offered.

For schools that are a lower preference on a live application, than the school offered, children can still be added to the waiting list but their parents/carers must email pupil.services@newham.gov.uk to request this.

Further guidance is available at https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/offer-places/1
